A short book review

Of Dan Abnett’s The Magos   I know the cover looks cheesy. I know game-verse fiction is often (rightly) dismissed as little better than fan-gush, but if you’ve never read Dan Abnett, I think you’re missing out on some truly good Sci Fi. It was the Eisenhorn trilogy that did it for me. I’d never heard of Mr. Abnett before. Apparently he writes comics. Cool, but not really my cuppa. But as an avid table top wargamer and spec-fiction reader, the books appeared on my radar screen and I took a chance… Read More

I’ll leave this right here

In discussing cover art for the upcoming Z6 ‘Enemy of my Enemy’ novella, I mentioned to the graphic artist I had a couple more ideas for the team/setting. Not only did he do an excellent job for ‘EomE’, he worked up a quick Z6 team logo – For when Z6 comes around in the fiction queue again. Pretty cool, eh? Have a great weekend.

New fiction on the radar.

From the upcoming Mil-SF novella “Enemy of my Enemy” *** I glanced around at my team, the scientists, Bozan and al-Asiri, the wounded… The chill in the air seemed to drop another ten degrees. “Sahito, where are you?” “On the Hephaestus, Captain Dante. Where else would I be?” I let out an exasperated sigh. “Fine. Where is the Fleet?” “Fast-burning to the Kepler System Fold-Space Transition Point beyond K-186F orbit.” Approaching the planet’s moon, two-hundred and forty thousand miles away… Sahito gave the answer so casually, at first I thought Zombie Six’s… Read More

A Prayer to Saint Strelok

There is more fiction in the pipeline but my latest short story is now available at Amazon. For those familiar with the STALKER or METRO 2033 video games, this should feel familiar – like the worn stock on your trusty AK-47, or the snug, sweat-soaked bands on your respirator. Release date is 16 December. You can pre-order now if you like. Enjoy and Spasibo. A Prayer to Saint Strelok

Some cover art

I write all the time but NaNoWriMo has been good for something this go around.

New Installment of ZOMBIE 6

Oasis: Faith under unfamiliar stars

Amazon’s Pilot Season has begun and for me, the winner is the SF show, OASIS. Without giving too much away, Richard Madden (from Game of Thrones) plays Peter, a young minister in the dystopia of 2032, who travels to Mankind’s last best hope, a distant space colony called Oasis where the best and brightest (and wealthiest) of Humanity is establishing a shiny new future for our species – a future without the ‘treacherous illusion of faith”. At least that’s what it was supposed to be until colony founder David Morgan suddenly and mysteriously… Read More

Speaking of Mechs…

Method 1 – Not a movie prop.   According to Task and Purpose, AMP Suits, Mech-Warrior, and other Big Stompy Robots aren’t that far away. Just add some Chobham armor plating and a chain gun and off we go.

Zombie Six

Bit of fiction today. The opening ‘graphs of my next mil-SF short. Have a good day and enjoy Thanksgiving. ***   ZOMBIE SIX They kill you week twenty of Enhanced Tactical Training. I mean you feel like the instructors have been trying to kill you ever since Basic, certainly during the Advanced courses in whatever branch you served before you were selected for the CRISIS Program: Rangers, SEALS, Delta, Intelligence Support… But after all that, this time it’s real. The surgeries have long since healed. You’ve integrated with your augments and are… Read More
